Short Bio

Prof Akdogan completed his PhD in Extractive Metallurgy at University of the Witwatersrand in 1992 and worked there as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Chemical and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering until 2003. In 2004, he joined to Element Six Pty (Ltd), De Beers Group, and worked as a research manager in HTHP materials for oil-gas and metal applications until 2008 before he returned to academia at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Stellenbosch University, as an Associate Professor. He also spent a period in USA working on mineral processing projects associated with INE at the University of Alaska. In 2018, he was appointed Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Stellenbosch University.

Research Interests

Mineral processing and extractive metallurgy, waste valorisation, and mine waste recycling.
